Episode 81: Born Dead
Mike had some bullshit, word salad, Crash Bandicoot drink. Huh? That can't be real, right? I bet it tastes terrible. You give this stuff to your grandpa, and he'd probably slap you for buying something with such a stupid name. Then he'd probably die after that, it's way too much caffeine. I could see Mario getting his own energy drink, but why Crash? I've only ever played the remastered Crash games, and I wasn't impressed. I died a lot too, I'm terrible at platformers, and Crash is as slippery as an eel. Maybe it's a skill issue and I should give him another chance. Maybe they just aren't good, and people only remember liking the original trilogy. Look at all the instant classic platformers that have come out in the mean time. Can Crash really compare to something like Shovel Knight? I know, Crash isn't strictly 2d like Shovel Knight, but you know what I'm talking about. And hell, Shovel Knight is even kinda old, you've had other big games like Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Mario Odyssey, etc. since then. Critically acclaimed platformers come out like all the time now. The past 15 years may be the best time period ever to be a fan of platformers.
I'll stop myself there and sum up with 2 questions.
1. Ignoring what Activision's marketing department would have you think, do you think Crash still has a seat at the table with the heavy hitters of the genre?
2. Why is Mike such a little fucker?
